Zambian MPs pay a courtesy call on Speaker

On 15 May 2017, the Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies hosted in her office, a parliamentary delegation from Zambia currently for on a study tour in Rwanda.

Before their courtesy call on the Speaker, the Zambia parliamentarians had held discussions with their Rwandan counterparts of the Social Affairs Committee and shared experience on participation of parliamentarians in promotion of health and social protection.

The head of delegation who is also the Chairperson of the Health, Community Development and Social Welfare Committee, Hon Jonas Kamima Chanda, said that apart from strengthening good bilateral relationship between parliaments of both countries, they also chose to come to visit Rwanda since it is a good success story in Africa due to achievements made in Social development goals and in social reproductive health which is the most important lesson they want to learn. 

 “What we want learn from Rwanda lies in health sector, the programs that are taking place at community level, at their health facility levels where we were explained that it is organised from grassroots so, we want to see and to learn so that when we go home we can put in practice what we have learnt”, He said

The Speaker of Chamber of Deputies, Right Hon. Donatille Mukabalisa said that the Zambian parliamentarians, as members of the Committee dealing with community development and social welfare, have the main objective to see how the Parliament of Rwanda works together with other institutions in order to boost citizens’ welfare and that such an objective have been achieved since their counterparts provided them with all necessary information about Rwanda’s parliamentary involvement in this particular field.

The Zambian MPs will also meet other officials from different institutions involved in health sector so that they will get the real picture of what has been achieved by Rwanda in this sector.
