Senate approves the Governor of Southern Province

On 13 July 2020, the Plenary Session of the Senate Chaired by President of the Senate Right. Hon. Augustin Iyamuremye approved Kayitesi Alice as the Governor of Southern Province.

While tabling before the plenary sitting of the Senate the analysis report on Kayitesi’s file, the Chairperson of Standing Committee on Political Affairs and Governance Honorable Lambert Dushimimana said that considering the interview with Kayitesi and information gathered, the Committee Members found that Kayitesi has enough skills and experience in leadership which will enable her to accomplish her assigned responsibilities as Governor of Southern Province.

On the implementation of Provincial duties, Hon. Dushimimana said that Kayitesi vowed to closely work with other authorities including Mayors of districts and other security officials to keep forward the development of this province. 

After debating on the committee’s report, the Senators approved it and also approved Alice Kayitesi to be the Governor of Southern Province.

The article 86 of the Constitution of Republic of Rwanda of 2003 revised in 2015, stipulates that the Senate has the powers to approve the appointment of officials. 

Alice Kayitesi was proposed by the President of the Republic of Rwanda as Governor of Southern Province on 7th July 2020.

The plenary sitting of the Senate also adopted the law approving the ratification of the agreement on mutual judicial assistance in criminal matters between the Republic of Rwanda and the Kingdom of Morocco, done in Rabat, on 19 March 2019.
