Sierra Leone MPs commend female majority in Rwanda Parliament

This 06 May 2019, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille received in audience a delegation of Members of Female Caucus of the Parliament of Sierra Leone led by Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay. The delegation is in Rwanda for a 6-day visit to learn more about Rwanda’s achievement in affirmative action particularly in matter of gender.

Within their discussions, Speaker Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille and Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay who is also the President of Female Caucus in Sierra Leone Parliament argued on strengthening bilateral parliamentary diplomacy and sharing various shining examples of experiences.

Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay ensured they have learn more about Rwanda and said they are ready to implement it. She said, “We are here to exchange knowledge and we have learned so much about Rwanda Parliament, including how they have achieved the considerable high number of women representation in the parliament. We are here so that they can tell us how they came about it and we want to copy what you did. That is what we are here for.”

On the side of the Speaker Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille reacting on the visit, she commended the learning example from Sierra Leone and other parliaments as well and said that as parliamentarians they have to learn from each other and keep working together to help their governments on the continent to exercise their duties in a good way that has to be determined by voted laws.

During this visit,thisdelegation of Members of Female Caucus of the Parliament of Sierra Leone met with both the Bureau of Rwanda Women Parliamentary Forum and the Bureau of Political Affairs and Gender Committee in the Parliament of Rwanda.
