Kigali, 8th April, 2019, the Speaker of Chamber of Deputies, Right Honorable Mukabalisa Donatille received Switzerland and French parliamentary delegations which on Sunday joined Rwandans to mark the 25th commemoration of the 1994 genocide that was perpetrated against the Tutsi.
The Switzerland delegation was led by Rt. Hon. Marina Carobbio Guscetti, the President of National Council of Switzerland and the French delegation was led by Hon. Herve Berville.
Speaking to the media shortly after meeting the Speaker, members of the Bureau and Chairpersons of the Committees, Rt. Hon. Marina Carobbio said that the Switzerland delegation came to Rwanda to show solidarity to Rwandans during the genocide commemoration period, at the same occasion holding bilateral exchanges with her Rwandan counterpart.
“Today and tomorrow, we are going to visit Switzerland projects in different sectors, health and public-private partnership projects. This visit is very important as it continues to strengthen bilateral relations between Switzerland and Rwanda,” she said.
She underscored Switzerland’s role in bringing to book Genocide fugitives saying that “As you are aware of, Switzerland is known for human rights, it is important to express our solidarity in fighting crimes that was perpetrated against humanity. Justice Procedures is done as necessary as possible,” she added.
Addressing the media, France’s Berville said they came to Rwanda to show solidarity and friendship to Rwandans and survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi. The delegation also came to deliver the message of comfort on behalf of French people who wish to honour lives that perished during the Genocide.
“We are here representing French people who wish to pay homage to victims of the genocide and salute the reconciliation work that was done Rwandan people and President Paul Kagame after that terrible tragedy. What is important is to continue working together between the two parliaments, entrepreneurs and sports among others towards the development of our countries,” he said.
The same day, Speaker Mukabalisa also received in her office, the New Zealand High Commissioner to Rwanda, Mark Ramsden who came to pave ways for the upcoming visit of New Zealand Speaker of House of Representatives expected in Rwanda this month.
