|   Chamber Of Deputies

This October 28, 2019, the Speaker of Chamber of Deputies Right Honorable Mukabalisa Donatille received in her office the delegation of Liberian MPs led by Honorable Acarous M. Gray, who are in Rwanda for a benchmarking visit.

Speaker Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa together with Liberia parliamentarians delegation led by Hon. Acarous M. Gray commended good relations between both countries and parliaments and Hon. Acarous Gray revealed that they came to learn from women empowerment and gender policies in Rwanda.

Speaker Mukabalisa explained the functioning of the Parliament of Rwanda, and how Rwanda has overcome the dark history of 1994 Genocide against Tutsi which took the lives of more than one million Tutsi, and how it has chosen to work together for the countries’ development.

She also explained how Rwanda empowered women in all sectors of life that led to the representation of 30% of women in all decision-making institutions. She added that the benefit of this inclusion is tremendously visible in the country's development.

The delegation of Liberian MPs praised the unique achievement of Rwanda in women empowerment and that is the reason they have chosen to learn from Rwanda to apply the same structure in Liberia, where women have no chance to enter the parliament unless they are elected in their constituencies.

As far as democracy in Rwanda is concerned, Liberian MPs appreciated the fact that the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies does not belong to the same political party with the President of the Republic.
