The Parliament goes into recess

On 04 December 2019, both Chambers of Parliament concluded their first ordinary sessions for 2019/2020, as provided for by Article 72 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda of 2003 revised in 2015.

Officiating at the closing of the session, the President of the Senate, Rt. Hon. Dr Augustin Iyamuremye stated that during this period, senatorial activities were dominated by induction and inception-related activities such as workshops, seminars and a retreat aimed at introducing members of the Third Senate to their new duties.

During the same period, the Senate also approved the appointment of Government officials, monitored the application of fundamental principles, analysed reports submitted to the Parliament by public institutions and reinforced institutional relationship with local and international organisations.

Closing the session in the Chamber of Deputies, The Speaker Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille said the House voted four laws. It was also informed respectively by the Prime Minister and the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, of the Government programme in ICT-based economy and the progress of national budget execution. Furthermore, the Chamber of Deputies considered reports tabled by Standing Committees on various issues of oversight of the Executive.

The Speaker expressed satisfaction with the successful organization and conduct of the 55th Parliamentary Assembly of the ACP and 38th Joint Parliamentary Assembly of the ACP-EU held in Kigali and took the same opportunity to thank all those who make it possible.
