Press release: Senate holds a seminar on Government agenda

|   Senate

The Senate administration has organised a two-day seminar to brief Members of the Third Senate about Government policies and programmes. The seminar is underway from 7 to 8 November 2019.

Different topics to be developed by experts and high ranking government officials are expected to brief Senators on key Government agendas including but not limited to the national strategic vision, fundamental principles, Government programmes, national and regional security situation, foreign policy and the role of Parliament at large and the Senate in particular, in driving the national development.

Rt. Hon. Dr Iyamuremye Augustin, President of the Senate, officiating at the opening of the seminar, highlighted its important terming it an opportunity for Senators to have a common understanding of the same goal they all serve, hence enabling the Senate to meet the expectations of the people of Rwanda.

“This seminar shall be an opportunity for us to think how the Senate can best discharge its mission, bearing in mind the rationale behind its establishment and therefore, see ways and means the Third Senate can fully contribute to the consolidation of national unity and sustainable development”, He advised the Senators.

The objective of the seminar is to train the Senators on different themes including the journey of Rwanda to reconstruction, vision and political choices of Rwanda after the Genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994, principles of accountability, self-reliance, thinking big and aiming high and Government programme, 2017-2024 (National Strategy for Transformation-NST1).

In addition, it is a favourable opportunity to equip Senators with the knowledge required in charging their constitutional duties either through standing committees or in the Plenary Assembly. END
