On this Tuesday, the 2nd March 2021, the virtual sitting of the Senate of Rwanda approved two Senior Officials in the Education sector as provided by article 86 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda of 2003 revised in 2015.

The Approved officials are Dr Nelson Mbarushimana as Director-General of Rwanda Basic Education Board and Dr Bernard Bahati as Director-General of National Examination and School Inspection Authority, both of whom were recently appointed by the cabinet.

While tabling the report before the plenary, the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs and Human Rights, Hon. Umuhire Adrie said that in analyzing the profiles of both officials, the committee found that they all have high qualification and experience in managerial positions especially within the education sector, which will enable them to accomplish their assigned work.

She also mentioned that in a virtual interaction with Dr Bernard Bahati told the committee members that, during his research, he focuses on how ICT can be used to regularly inspect the education which is part of mandates of the institution to which he was entrusted with the leadership.

On the side of Dr Nelson Mbarushimana, Hon. Umuhire said that he vowed to improve the quality of education, improving the teacher’s management system, strengthening the use of ICT in education and getting qualified teachers to the pre-primary level so that pupils start primary school with a strong foundation.

The senators commended the appointment of the two Senior Officials due to their experience in the education sector and their commitments to boost the quality of education.
