Committee on Political Affairs and Governance

The Committee on Political Affairs and Governance is responsible for monitoring the application of the following fundamental principles:

  1. equitable power-sharing;
  2. to build a State governed by the rule of law, a pluralistic democratic government, equality of all Rwandans and between men and women which is affirmed by women occupying at least thirty per cent (30%) of positions in decision-making organs.

In terms of oversight of the Executive action, the Committee on Political Affairs and Governance is responsible for:

  1. Scrutinising reports relating to the referendum and other types of elections;
  2. Dealing with issues related to territory administration and governance;
  3. Monitoring the functioning of political organisations and the ethics of politicians;
  4. Monitoring justice and institutional relations;
  5. Monitoring the enforcement of criminal legislation, organisation and jurisdiction of Courts and criminal procedures;
  6. Overseeing the establishment, restructuring, functioning and removal of public institutions.
  7. The Committee also has a specific responsibility to consider the amendment of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.
