On 12 June 2026, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Gertrude Kazarwa, virtually participated in the Extraordinary Meeting of the Bureau of Speakers of the East African Community (EAC).
The meeting focused on strengthening regional cooperation and enhancing the EAC’s resilience in addressing shared challenges, including economic uncertainties, climate change, and evolving security concerns.
Speaking during the meeting, Speaker Kazarwa emphasised the importance of a united regional response to cross-border challenges, noting that such issues require collective action and stronger collaboration among EAC Partner States.
She reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote regional integration, people-to-people connections, and parliamentary cooperation within the East African Community.
“Such challenges underscore the importance of a stronger, more united and resilient East African Community capable of responding collectively to issues that transcend national borders,” Speaker Kazarwa said. “Rwanda remains fully committed to supporting all initiatives that promote regional cooperation, people-to-people connections, and parliamentary collaboration within the East African Community.
