On Friday 27 January 2023, Members of the Parliament of the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption, Rwanda Chapter, APNAC-Rwanda, together with their partners committed to examining ways to put in place the law aimed at promoting the integrity, revising the law governing companies, and reviewing laws that regulate non-governmental organizations, Faith-Based Organisations, and cooperatives among others.
The recommendations were taken during a 1-day consultative meeting organised by the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption, Rwanda Chapter, under the theme "The status of transparency in the registration of properties: Ways loopholes can be prevented."
Participants of the meeting also decided to establish a way for APNAC-RWANDA members to participate in workshops aimed at sensitising citizens to overtly reveal the information about the owners’ assets that are hidden.
Opening the APNAC-Rwanda consultative meeting, the President of the Senate, Rt. Hon. Dr Kalinda Francois Xavier pointed out that Rwanda has made good progress in the fight against corruption, thanks to political will and good governance.
"As you know, the Parliament is involved in the prevention and fight against corruption, through campaigning, research, and consulting, in addition to the responsibility of legislation and oversight of the Government action," stated the President of the Senate.
During the meeting, the exchanges were focused on showcasing the situational status of concealing properties and procedures of showing the real property owners in Rwanda, ways that laws are against concealing properties, and the role of the institutions in solving it.
The consultative meeting brought together Members of the Parliaments members of APNAC Rwanda alongside public and private institutions in charge of fighting against corruption including the Office of Ombudsman, Transparency International Rwanda, the National Public Prosecution Authority, and the Financial Intelligence Centre.
