Compared to the previous year, there was a gradual improvement in audit outcomes and a modest improvement in the implementation of the previous year’s recommendations.
“68% of the entities we audited got unqualified opinions in financial audits, 61% got unqualified opinions in the compliance audits of laws and regulation on public spending, and 53% of unqualified opinions on compliance with laws and regulations to realise Value for Money. Again, fully implemented recommendations increased from 48% to 57% this year.” He noted.
However, The Auditor General pointed out different cases of unlawful expenditure totalling Frw 6.45 Bn. This increased from Frw 3.2Bn of the last year. “Chief Budget Managers have to put in place strong internal controls to avoid such cases of irregular expenditure.” Auditor General explained.
Members of the Parliament noted that the report of the Office of the Auditor General shows changes in the management of public resources for the welfare of the people. They urged the concerned institutions to put more effort to prevent the mismanagement of public resources and to hold accountable those involved in the misuse of the country's resources.
