Members of the Chamber of Deputies’ Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security conducted field visits in 15 districts across the country to address the growing concerns of mineral theft and illegal mining, with the goal of strengthening citizen security.
The visits, held from 2 to 8 October 2025, aimed to gather information to identify the causes and impacts of illegal mining activities on community safety and to propose sustainable solutions.
Prior to the visits, the Committee held consultations with key institutions, including the Ministry of Local Government (MINALOC), the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB), the Rwanda National Police (RNP), the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), the Rwanda Mining Association, and FECOMERWA, to review current challenges and existing measures.
At the district and sector levels, the Committee met with local leaders, citizens’ representatives, and stakeholders in the mining sector.
