On 18th October 2023, the President of the Senate Kalinda François Xavier held talks with Mrs. Heike Uta Dettmann, Ambassador of Germany to Rwanda. The visit was to commend the long-standing partnership between the Republic of Rwanda and Germany and their respective parliaments as well.

Mrs Dettmann expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet with the President of the Senate for the first time and insisted on the commitment the two countries have in strengthening the existing cooperation between Rwanda and Germany.

“I have the privilege to meet the President of the Senate of Rwanda, it is my first time here and I am sure the existing cooperation between our two countries and parliaments will be strengthened”.
 
Her visit covered a wide range of topics particularly focusing on the areas where Germany has been working with Rwanda.

The President of the Senate acknowledged the support of the Federal Republic of Germany to Rwanda via GIZ in socio-development areas, and BioNTech in the health sector among others and promised to maintain this bilateral cooperation. The partnership between Rwanda and Germany dates to 1982.
