Rwandan delegation led by the Vice President of the Senate Nyirasafari Espérance attended the 147th Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Luanda, Angola. The General Debate focused on the theme of Parliamentary action for peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16).
Addressing the Assembly, Hon Nyirasafari said that the Government of Rwanda has integrated and domesticated the SDGs into the long-term development aspirations of Rwanda, and many achievements have been realized.
"The 5th population & housing census conducted in 2022, showed that sustained economic growth over the past 2 decades has translated into improved well-being of citizens including an increase of life expectancy to 69.6 years in 2022 from 51.2 in 2002": Hon. Nyirasafari.
Hon. Nyirasafari noted "As representatives of citizens, we should play a vital role in advancing progress towards SDG-16. In my Country-Rwanda, the Parliament contributes significantly to the implementation of the SDGs, through the exercise of its functions."
The Parliament of Rwanda also congratulates Dr Tulia Ackson, the Speaker of the Parliament of Tanzania who was elected IPU President for a 3-year term at the conclusion of the 147th IPU Assembly.
