On May 03, 2024, Members of Parliament, staff, family members and friends held an event to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Genocide against the Tutsi. The gathering aimed to honour the employees of the former CND who were killed during the 1994 Genocide.

Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille said, “As politicians, we have the responsibility to acknowledge the negative aspects of our country's history. Today, we continue to struggle with the aftermath of this dark history as we work towards a better future.”

“We have the power and responsibility to fight against speeches promoting trivialisation  and revisionism of genocide, through parliamentary relations, international organizations and different  friendship groups by telling them the truth about the history of our country and asking them to not give place to genocide perpetrators fled into their respective countries,”She added

“The genocide against the Tutsi we remember today, could have not happened, it was possible to prevent it. It occurred because of the cowardly decisions of those who were in power in this country. “The genocide against the Tutsi we remember today, was not necessarily supposed to happen, it was possible that it did not happen. It happened because of the cowardly decisions of those who were in power in this country. When we remember, we remember that today we must make the right decisions to despise that cowardice." He added

The President of the Senate, François Xavier Dr Kalinda, emphasized the role of post-independence leaders in promoting ethnic discrimination and hate by propagating the genocide ideology based on false claims of different origins of Rwandans.

"At this time of commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsis, as Members of Parliament, it is important to consider our role, and that of the Leaders of the Public Institutions in general in fighting all kinds of injustice and discrimination and the role models in strengthening unity and justice.” He added.
