On December 23, 2024, at the Rwanda Parliament, the Speaker of Parliament led a ceremony to honour the team and individuals who achieved outstanding success at the 14th East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games held in Mombasa, Kenya from December 6 to 18, 2024. During this tournament, which brought together lawmakers from across the region, Rwanda stood out as one of the top participants and was recognised for its exceptional performance. Awards were presented to athletes and teams, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Right Hon. Gertrude Kazarwa focused on this achievement in her speech, emphasizing that the tournament is not just about winning, but about fostering strong relationships between Parliaments and countries. “These games enhance awareness of the East African Community among our citizens and foster dialogue on our progress in regional integration,” said Hon. Kazarwa.
She also encouraged teams to maintain their commitment to rigorous preparation and teamwork. “Our goal is to excel in every competition, bringing home trophies and medals due to our dedication and effort.” She added
The Rwanda Men’s Volleyball team received the championship Trophy in the tournament. The team demonstrated exceptional skill and resilience, winning all five matches, culminating in a thrilling 3-2 victory over the EALA team in the final. The closely contested match saw Rwanda prevail in the decisive tiebreak set, a testament to their determination and teamwork.
Rwanda's women's team also shone in athletics, with Hon. Dep. Geraldine Mukabalisa securing a Bronze Medal in the 800-meter race. Her remarkable determination and athletic prowess earned her a well-deserved spot on the podium. Hon. Muhakwa Valens was honoured as the best volleyball player of the tournament, recognized for his outstanding leadership and game-changing contributions on the court.
Additionally, Rwanda’s delegation was awarded the prestigious Fair Play Trophy, a recognition of their exemplary conduct and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
