On March 14, 2025, Members of Parliament, government officials, private sector representatives, and civil society leaders gathered at the Parliament for a consultative meeting organised by the Rwandan Parliamentarians’ Network Against Corruption (APNAC-Rwanda). The aim of the meeting was to explore strategies for combating corruption.
In his opening remarks, the President of the Senate Kalinda François Xavier emphasized the shared responsibility of all Rwandans to fight against corruption. “Fighting corruption is not just the responsibility of the government or a single institution. It is the duty of all of us, as Rwandans, united by our common goal of building a country characterized by peace, good governance, justice, and patriotism, which will lead to the sustainable development we strive for,” stated Rt. Hon. Kalinda.
Following panel discussions that addressed Rwanda's current position on corruption both regionally and globally, as well as the institutional efforts to prevent and combat it, participants developed resolutions that emphasized ongoing anti-corruption awareness efforts and the need for further evaluation of existing anti-corruption regulations to identify and address any gaps.
Hon. Ngarambe Télesphore, the Chairperson of APNAC-Rwanda, remarked that despite the significant progress made in preventing and combating corruption in Rwanda, the organization believes corruption is a crime that continually evolves. Therefore, effectively addressing it requires innovative thinking and practical solutions.
In her closing remarks, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Kazarwa Gertrude called for collaboration between leaders and citizens in the fight against corruption. “When leaders collaborate with citizens, they can effectively address the issue of corruption. As leaders, let us foster this spirit of partnership, unite our efforts, and share our insights. Together, we can create a corruption-free country.,” stated Rt. Hon. Kazarwa.
