On 30 January 2026, Members of Parliament met in a consultative session organised by the Rwanda Parliamentarians’ Network on Population and Development (RPRPD) under the theme “Enhancing Food Security and Nutrition Through Effective Legislature.” The meeting brought together Senators, Deputies, and key stakeholders. It was organised in partnership with FAO.

Discussions focused on Rwanda’s food security and nutrition status, highlighting challenges such as agricultural and livestock productivity, post-harvest losses, population growth pressures, and climate change impacts. Participants emphasized the need for coordinated and sustainable solutions.

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Hon. Kazarwa Gertrude, highlighted that the meeting provided an opportunity for self-assessment and experience sharing, and for jointly identifying appropriate measures to ensure that the country’s progress in enhancing food security and nutrition remains on track.

RPRPD Chairperson Hon. Uwababyeyi Jeannette stressed the importance of food security and nutrition for sustainable development.

MPs committed to strengthening collaboration among stakeholders, promoting climate-resilient agriculture, reducing post-harvest losses, and reinforcing parliamentary oversight of national development frameworks, including NST2, to ensure improved food security and nutrition for all Rwandans.
