On 04 December 2023, both chambers of the Parliament of Rwanda concluded the first ordinary session of the year 2023/2024.

The President of the Senate, Dr Kalinda François Xavier, stated that during the concluded ordinary session, the Senate of Rwanda covered a range of activities related to its mandate in line with its specific responsibilities of monitoring the application of the fundamental principles provided for by Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.

He mentioned that both chambers adopted Organic law amending Organic law n° 001/2019.ol of 29/07/2019 governing elections, the Senate approved the appointment of nine officials and in reaching out to the community, the Members of Parliaments through parliamentary forums organised visits on the field. The Senate of Rwanda received different reports from government agencies and committees as well.
In strengthening relations between parliaments, the president of the Senate Dr Kalinda with his delegation visited the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

On the side of the Chamber of Deputies, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Right Honorable Mukabalisa Donatille said that the Chamber of Deputies carried out the activities related to its mission of legislation, oversight of the Executive and the representation of the population. 

She said that as the mission of legislation is concerned, the Chamber of Deputies approved the relevance of 10 draft bills and voted 14.

In line with the responsibility of overseeing the Executive activities, the Speaker said that in this Ordinary Session, the Minister of Infrastructure, the Minister of Local Government and the Minister of Trade and Industry provided to the Chamber of Deputies verbal explanations on issues raised falling in their respective Ministries’ responsibilities.

As far as Community representation responsibility is concerned, Deputies conducted outreach activities and visits to communities through Parliamentary Forums. 

During the 1st ordinary session, the Chamber of Deputies received ambassadors representing their countries to Rwanda and other Guests from International Organizations. The Chamber was also represented in international conferences, among them, the 147th IPU Assembly held in Luanda, Angola.  

The first ordinary session of the year 2023/2024 concluded today and was launched on 05 October 2023.
