Back to list MPs engage citizens on the law governing Persons and Family
Articles

From October 31 to November 1st , 2025, Members of Parliament, through the Forum of Rwandan Women Parliamentarians (FFRP) and the Network of Rwandan Parliamentarians on Population and Development (RPRPD), conducted a nationwide outreach campaign to raise awareness about the Law Governing Persons and Family and promote youth participation in reproductive health services.

During the visits, citizens expressed their support for the law’s provisions, especially those promoting gender equality and managing family property. However, they sought clearer information on family councils, property division during separation, and increased public awareness of certain legal provisions.

Members of Parliament and Senators also visited schools and youth centres to discuss reproductive health and prevent unintended pregnancies. They emphasised the importance of parental communication about these topics and identified family conflicts as a barrier for youth seeking guidance.

This outreach aimed to enhance legal literacy and understanding of rights and obligations, fostering stable and peaceful families. The increased interest shown by citizens and youth is seen as a vital step in bridging the gap between legislation and community awareness, ensuring that laws promote social harmony and national development.
