On Monday, October 7, 2024, the  Parliament kicked off its First Ordinary Session of 2024-2025 as provided for under Article 72 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.

The Senate President, Rt Hon. Dr. Kalinda François Xavier, stated that during this term, the Senate will fulfill its mandate by monitoring the application of fundamental principles. He said that the Senate will conduct activities such as overseeing government activities, voting on laws, and approving the appointment of senior government officials.

An emphasis will be placed on visiting and engaging with citizens to understand their aspirations and collaborating with other institutions to resolve their problems.

Rt. Hon. Kazarwa Gertrude, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, pointed out that the Chamber of Deputies will consider the relevance of various bills and draft laws, vote laws including the draft organic private member’s bill determining the functioning of the Senate; overseeing the Government action; parliamentary outreach activities around the country and activities related to parliamentary diplomacy.

During this term, It is expected that the Prime Minister will present before both Chambers the Government activities on a topic which will be communicated later.
