On May 10, 2025, Members of Parliament from both Chambers visited "Intwaza" in "Impinganzima", homes in 4 districts - Bugesera, Huye, Nyanza and Rusizi.
A delegation led by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Right Honourable Kazarwa Gertrude, visited "Impinganzima" home in Nyamata, Bugesera District, in a heartfelt show of solidarity with the "Intwaza", elderly survivors of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
This initiative is part of the commemoration period, which lasts for 100 days and honours the memory of the victims while supporting the survivors.
In her address, Speaker Kazarwa delivered a message of compassion and encouragement to the Intwaza:
“Dear parents, we have a duty to visit you, especially during these 100 days the country has designated for all Rwandans to remember the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994".
She added, "You went through so much; what you experienced left wounds, both emotional and physical, for some of you. The fact that you overcame all that and chose to continue living, and the love you have shown us, remains a strong symbol of resilience and patience.”
According to the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE), more than 200 Intwaza currently live in Indangamirwa homes, where they receive ongoing psychosocial and medical support.
