The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has commenced public hearings to scrutinise cases of mismanagement of public finances and resources as highlighted in the latest report by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2024.
The hearings are scheduled to occur from June 25 to July 15, 2025. During this time, Chief Budget Managers and staff from 109 public entities and projects will appear before the Committee to explain and provide accountability for the irregularities in the management of public funds and resources as outlined in the Office of the Auditor General's report.
The Chairperson of PAC, Hon. Muhakwa Valens, emphasised that the hearings aim to ensure transparency, enforce accountability, and recommend corrective actions. "Our role is not only to seek answers but to make sure those entrusted with public resources uphold the highest standards of financial management"
The PAC public hearings reaffirm the Parliament’s oversight role and the Government’s commitment to zero tolerance for mismanagement of public funds and state patrimony.
