On Monday, June 5, 2023, the Senate, and the Chamber of Deputies began the third ordinary session of the year 2022-2023, as articulated by Article 72 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda of 2003, revised in 2015.
The Senate President, Rt. Hon. Kalinda Francois Xavier stated that following the conclusion of the second ordinary session, the Plenary Sitting convened in extraordinary sessions and adopted various laws, including the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda and the Law governing the Rwanda National Police, among others.
The Senate President added that the Senate will carry out ten major tasks during the third ordinary session, including monitoring the application of fundamental principles and the functioning of political organizations, exercising oversight over government activities, adopting laws, and conducting field visits, to name a few.
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille said that during the third ordinary session, the Chamber will consider the relevance of various bills and draft laws and vote on them, including the draft law determining the state finances for the fiscal year 2023-2024, and other laws that are being revised in the standing committees.
During the session, the speaker reminded the plenary that the Ad hoc which is probing into the role of colonization in the conflicts in the region, particularly in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and its impacts on the relationship between Rwanda and DRC will table its findings to the Plenary Assembly.
