On 4th April 2024, both chambers of the Parliament of Rwanda concluded the 2nd ordinary session of the year 2023/2024 as per the Constitution.

Dr Kalinda François Xavier, the President of the Senate, stated that during the session, the Senate fulfilled its responsibility of monitoring the application of the fundamental principles stated by Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.

During the session, the Senate approved the appointment of three officials and adopted four laws, which included the Organic Law determining procedures for Parliamentary oversight over Government activities. Additionally, the Senate provided its opinion on the revised law determining the state finances for the 2023/2024 fiscal year.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Mukabalisa Donatille, highlighted the activities carried out by the Chamber of Deputies. These included the approval of 18 bills, voting on 13 laws, including the law governing the National Electoral Commission, and the consideration of five more laws by Standing Committees.

In line with the responsibility of oversight of Government activities, the Minister of Local Government, the Minister of Trade and Industry, and the Minister of Infrastructure appeared before the Plenary sitting to provide verbal explanations.

The joint plenary of both Chambers was addressed by Prime Minister Dr Ngirente Edouard, who presented the Government's efforts in the post-Covid economic recovery process.
