On 21 September 2023, young people, Members of Parliament, and civil society organisations representatives gathered at the Parliament of Rwanda to celebrate the International Day of Peace. The event was graced by the presence of the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Mukabalisa Donatille who opened the day by watering the tree of peace.

In her remarks, Speaker Mukabalisa recalled how Rwanda's Peace of today is the result of the resilience of its people after the dark days of the past marked by genocide against Tutsi in 1994.

She said, “The journey to rebuild our country that was destroyed was not easy; it happened because of our visionary leaders so, it is very important to teach the young generation the fundamental principles of our culture, that will take us to a sustainable development of our country, the foundation of peace and unity of Rwandans.

During the ceremony, Hon. Speaker told the youth that they are represented in different institutions, especially in the parliament, so they must embrace that chance and contribute to finding solutions to the problems encountered by expressing their ideas and suggestions.
