On 6 October 2025, both Chambers of the Parliament of Rwanda officially opened the 1st Ordinary Session of the 2025/2026 parliamentary year, in accordance with the law.

In his opening remarks, the Right Honourable Dr Kalinda François Xavier, President of the Senate of Rwanda, stated that the Senate will fulfil its constitutional mandate while monitoring the application of the fundamental principles outlined in Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda. He emphasised that the Senate will engage in various activities such as overseeing government programs, voting on laws, and approving the appointment of senior government officials.

The Right Honourable Kazarwa Gertrude, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, noted that the Chamber has passed several laws and will continue to consider the relevance of various draft laws and vote on them. She added that Members of Parliament will also exercise their oversight role over government activities.

She further mentioned that the Chamber of Deputies will continue to receive Members of Parliament from other parliaments, parliamentary organisations and other visitors. MPs will participate in international meetings as part of their efforts to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy.
