As provided for by the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda, on 30 June 2023, Prime Minister, Dr Edouard Ngirente, presented to the Parliament, both Chambers, Government of Rwanda’s actions related to disaster management and prevention.

In his presentation, PM Dr. Ngirente outlined some of the government actions and plans in managing and preventing disasters. He also pointed out how the Government has helped those affected by the recent disasters.

Particularly, the Premier said that as part of Government response and support to families affected by disasters 3,711 families were provided with rental assistance for 3 months, food and basic necessities while their houses are being repaired or built.

Prime Minister said that from May 2023, 438 houses are being repaired and new houses for 3,088 families whose houses were completely damaged will be built. He thanked all partners for their contribution in disaster emergency response and encouraged families and households who are still living in high-risk zones to quickly move from those zones to safer areas.

Members of the Parliament commended the diligent efforts of the Government in dealing with the immediate effects of the natural disasters, including the rescue of the affected citisens in different Provinces of the country. They requested that actions and measures in managing and preventing disasters be implemented to reduce their risks to the lives of the citisens.
