On 05 April 2023, the President of the National Assembly of Slovenia, H.E Urška Klakočar Zupančič and her delegation arrived in Rwanda for a 5-day working visit and stood with Rwandans to commence the 29th anniversary of the commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
After paying the coursety call on the Speaker of the Chamber of Deouties, H.E Urška Klakočar Zupančič, said "Rwanda, as an African country shares values that Slovenia has, and Slovenia, European Union country trying to open its doors outside European Union. I believe countries like ours, that have gone through much in history, share many things in common,"
“We discussed a range of topics including but not limited to how we can work together as parliamentarians, and how we can learn from each other,” Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.
“We discussed the parliamentary friendship groups that have been established by both sides, the Parliament of Rwanda and the National Assembly of Slovenia, and its work of promoting parliamentary diplomacy”, the Speaker Mukabalisa added.
During her visit, the President of the National Assembly of Slovenia, H.E Urška Klakočar Zupančič was received by the President of the Republic of Rwanda, H.E Paul Kagame.
She also encountered officials of public institutions with whom they exchanged various matters in the fields of environmental protection, human rights, and women's rights promotion.
She also paid respects to the victims of the Genocide Against the Tutsi at the Kigali Genocide Memorial and toured the Museum for the Campaign against the Genocide where she learned more about the history of Genocide, and how Rwandans overcame all the differences to build a democratic country.
