From 05 to 09 April 2025, Members of Parliament representing Rwanda, led by the Vice President of the Senate of Rwanda, Honorable Nyirahabimana Solina, attended,  the  150th  Interparliamentary Union Assembly held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan under the theme “Parliamentary action for social development and justice.”

Addressing the Assembly, the Vice President of the Senate highlighted the vital role of the Parliament of Rwanda in advancing social development and justice by overseeing that all policies and programs established are effectively implemented and uplift the lives of Rwandans.

“I would like to reiterate that social development and Justice are indeed global issues. As members of parliaments, representatives of people, let’s play our parts to make sure that our governments give high priority to the social development and justice programmes for uplifting the standards of the lives of our people” She said.

During this event, the Rwandan delegation also participated in the Forum of Women Parliamentarians. The Vice President share the Rwanda Parliament story in advancing gender equality with other national parliaments and various international women’s networks.

“We strongly believe that mutual collaboration between Parliaments to enhance the political will for inclusion accompanied with legal and institutional frameworks and accountability is a key factor to achieve gender equality.”  She added.

On the sidelines of the 150th IPU Assembly, the Vice President of the Senate met with the Polish delegation led by Senator Gabriela MORAWSKA-STANECKA, Vice President of the IPU and discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation between Poland and Rwanda through Parliamentary diplomacy.

The IPU Assembly is the IPU's main political body through which the IPU's Member Parliaments adopt parliamentary resolutions on global issues. It plays a pivotal role in addressing the issues which threaten peace, democracy and sustainable development through its four thematic standing committees.
