The Rwandan Parliament engaged in a series of activities aimed at enhancing parliamentary diplomacy and sharing best practices, with an emphasis on oversight, legislation, social welfare, fiscal governance, and inclusive policymaking. The events took place during the week of September 15-19, 2025.
The engagements involved Members of Parliament from South Sudan and the Czech Republic, who interacted with their Rwandan counterparts to gain insights from Rwanda’s experiences in parliamentary oversight, social welfare promotion, and women’s empowerment.
The sessions focused on the roles and responsibilities of Members of Parliament (MPs) in overseeing national finances and planning. They examined the State Budget and emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in managing public resources. MPs participated in discussions about budget oversight, fiscal policy, debt management, and gender-responsive planning. They shared strategies aimed at promoting equitable economic development and social inclusion.
Additionally, the exchange explored institutional and policy frameworks that have contributed to advances in gender equality, alongside cultural and historical practices that have fostered a national culture of respect for women. Participants discussed ways to adapt these legislative and governance practices to broader policy, development, and international initiatives.
