On 14 April 2026, the Plenary Sitting of the Senate approved the relevance of a draft organic law governing elections, marking a significant step in ongoing efforts to further strengthen electoral processes in Rwanda.

Senators welcomed the proposed revisions, noting that several amendments are informed by a comprehensive assessment of recent elections conducted by the National Electoral Commission. The assessment identified key areas requiring improvement to enhance the preparation, organisation, and management of future elections.

Following this approval, the draft organic law will be referred to the relevant Standing Committee of the Senate for detailed examination. It will subsequently be tabled before the Plenary Sitting for final consideration.
