On 25 February 2026, the Plenary Sitting of the Senate called on the Government to remove obstacles limiting the effectiveness of the Anti-Injustice and Anti-Corruption Advisory Council and Anti-Corruption Committees.

The resolution followed the approval of a report by the Political Affairs and Governance Committee assessing the Ombudsman’s 2024/2025 activities. Senators noted that while these bodies play a key role in promoting accountability and integrity, operational and legal challenges continue to hinder their performance.

The Senate pledged to closely monitor progress in addressing the identified bottlenecks. Senators also urged the swift issuance of a Presidential Order to operationalise Law No. 44bis/2017 of 06/09/2017 on the protection of whistleblowers.

In addition, the report called on the Ministry of Infrastructure to promptly resolve challenges in infrastructure projects, particularly those related to compensation, to protect citizens’ rights and maintain public trust.
