On April 13th, 2024, Rwanda concluded the commemoration week, during which, on a national level, the President of the Senate, Rt Hon Dr. Kalinda François-Xavier, government officials, dignitaries, families, and friends gathered at Rebero Genocide Memorial to pay respects to 21 politicians who were killed for opposing the plan of the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994. They also laid wreaths at the resting place of 12 politicians and more than 14,000 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Senate President Dr. Kalinda stated that remembering the politicians who were killed for opposing the Genocide plan, and striving for unity and good governance, is an important activity that reflects their good example of distancing themselves from evil and rejecting injustice among Rwandans.

The President of the Senate reiterated the responsibility of current politicians in Rwanda, emphasizing, "The political organizations we have today and their politicians have a great responsibility to combat the ideology of Genocide and to preserve the unity of Rwandans."

"Political organizations and politicians must always bear in mind the responsibility of promoting the unity of Rwandans in their political activities," added the Senate President.

Rt. Hon. Dr. Kalinda emphasized, "We must never forget the history of the Genocide against the Tutsis, so that we remain united and always ready to combat the ideology of genocide in all its forms, wherever it arises."

Additionally, the period of remembrance of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi will continue for 100 days.
