On October 31st, 2023, the Plenary sitting of the Senate approved several judges and other officials who were appointed by the Cabinet meeting of October 20th, 2023 after assessing and adopting standing committees’ reports on their profiles.
The Committee of Politics and Governance assessed six appointees whose positions are related to the field of justice as follows:
1. Mr. Kazungu Jean Bosco and Mr. Kalihangabo Isabelle, Judges in the Supreme Court.
2. Mrs Angeline Rutazana and Mr. Xavier Ndahayo Judges in the Court of Appeal.
3. Mr. Habarurema Jean Pierre, the President of the High Court.
4. Dr. Muyoboke Kalimunda Aimé, the Director General of the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD).
Senator Nsengiyumva Fulgence, the Chairperson of the Committee, assured the Plenary sitting that all the nominees have the expertise and qualifications to fulfil their new responsibilities.
The Plenary Sitting approved Mrs. Umurungi Providence as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Human Rights. The Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Affairs and Human Rights Hon. Umuhire Adrie commenting on Mrs Umurungi’s experience, told the Plenary sitting that the committee considered her profile and background which assures that Mrs Umurungi will effectively discharge her duties.
Lastly, Mrs. Mukasine Marie Claire was approved by plenary sitting as the Rwandan Ambassador to Japan. As highlighted by Senator Prof. Dusingizemungu Jean Pierre, Deputy Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security, during the discussion with the committee, She expressed her commitment to strengthening cooperation between Rwanda and Japan, particularly in sectors of technology and education.
