From 22 September to 17 October 2023, Senators of the Committee on Economic Development and Finance in the Senate organised the Committee’s tour activity in various districts with the aim of monitoring measures put in place to speed up the implementation of the provisions of the Government's programme (2017-2024) related to mining Sector’s activities in Rwanda.
The Chairperson of the Committee on Economic Development and Finance, Hon. Nkusi Juvénal stated that the key objective of the Committee’s activity to assess the mines sector is due to the growing contribution of the minerals to development of the Rwanda’s exportation. Therefore, the Committee want to assess the sector and see where it stands given that it contributes to the country’s economic development, and job creation and how the country can improve and boost refinery of minerals.
Senators will exchange with leaders of Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB) on matters related to minerals, and of central and local concerned institutions regulating Rwanda’s mining sector.
During the tour activity, Senators of the Committee on Economic Development and Finance of the Senate will reach out to various companies working in the mining sector, mines sites, processing plants and schools that are involved in mining activities in Rwanda.
