Kigali, October 16, 2025 – The Senate has emphasized the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in driving Rwanda’s development agenda. This came during a consultative meeting with the Minister of State in the Ministry of ICT and Innovation, Mr. Iradukunda Yves, where senators reviewed the implementation of the National AI Policy and its impact across key sectors of the economy.

The Senate President, François Xavier Kalinda, emphasised that AI can play a transformative role in improving the performance of the Senate. He noted its potential in areas such as data analysis and citizen engagement, both of which are critical for delivering more responsive and efficient service delivery.

Speaking during the session, Minister of State Iradukunda Yves outlined the government's ongoing efforts to ensure that AI is used sustainably and inclusively across all sectors. He highlighted several key strategies, including: Building reliable digital infrastructure to support AI technologies; Developing safeguards to prevent the misuse of AI; creating a dataset in Kinyarwanda for the AI, enabling citizens to interact with AI systems in a language they understand

These strategies aim to ensure that the benefits of AI reach Rwandans from all walks of life. The National AI Policy identifies key sectors that should be prioritised for AI adoption, namely Healthcare, Education, Agriculture, Public Sector Governance, Commerce and Trade,…

Minister Iradukunda stated that leveraging AI in these sectors can drive innovation, improve service delivery, and increase productivity, all contributing to Rwanda’s broader goals of sustainable development and improved quality of life for its citizens.

The Senate's engagement reflects the country’s commitment to building a future where technology serves as a tool for inclusive growth and prosperity.
