On November 04, 2024, Speaker Kazarwa Gertrude, along with Deputy Speakers Uwineza Beline and Harerimana Mussa Fazil, met with the Members of the Committee on Human Rights of the House of the People of Federal Parliament of Somalia who are in Rwanda for a benchmarking study tour.
Speaker Kazarwa Gertrude stated that the Somali MPs' delegation visit aimed to foster good and commendable relations between both Parliaments.
During their visit, the Somali MPs interacted with members of Rwanda's Committee on Unity, Human Rights and Fight against Genocide. They shared their experiences on national unity and resilience and women's and children's rights.
The delegation also visited the National Human Rights Commission and the Office of the Ombudsman and exchanged experiences about the fighting against injustice, promotion of human rights and their working relations with the Parliament.
Hon. Hawa Sokor Ali, the Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights of the Federal Parliament of Somalia mentioned that they visited the Rwanda Parliament to create a platform of interaction, sharing experiences and good practices to improve the ability to carry out their oversight responsibilities to executive agencies and develop their leadership skills.
The MPs also paid tribute to the victims of the Genocide Against the Tutsi at the Kigali Genocide Memorial and visited the Campaign Against Genocide Museum to learn about Rwanda’s resilience in stopping the genocide and building a brighter future.
