On 18 April 2026, the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Gertrude Kazarwa, joined residents of Murambi Sector in Rulindo District for the 32nd commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, held at Mvuzo Genocide Memorial.
During the ceremony, 176 victims were given a dignified burial, including 173 remains recently discovered on January 19–20. The remains belong to 12 extended families of Tutsi who were killed in the area, particularly from Mugote hill and nearby locations.
In her message, Speaker Kazarwa called for continued unity and vigilance against genocide ideology: “We must strengthen unity and safeguard our Rwandan family against genocide ideology. Speaking the truth about our history heals deep wounds, while silence and denial only deepen them. I urge everyone to play a role in preventing divisions and building a stronger Rwanda for the future.”
The commemoration highlighted the importance of remembrance, truth, and collective responsibility in preserving Rwanda’s history and preventing genocide ideology.
