On 24 October Speaker Mukabalisa Donatille officially opened the African and Asian Parliamentarians’ Dialogue towards ICPD30 and AADPD10 which gathered over 60 participants to share their experiences and perspectives on legislative issues around the 2013 Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development (AADPD) and the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
“It is important that we recognise the critical role played by our parliamentarians in shaping laws that align with our respective Executive Branches, but also in holding Government accountable especially in the implementation of Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development and the International Conference on Population and Development commitments while evaluating the actual impacts on the citizens' lives.” Speaker Mukabalisa.
In 2024, the world will commemorate 30 years of the historic International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and its commitment towards people-centered development, peace, equal rights and choices for all populations.
In Africa, these obligations have been advanced through the 2013 Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development, which provides region specific recommendations on population and development, and guidelines for the full implementation of the Programme of Action for ICPD.
