On April 15th 2024, Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, officials and families joined the residents of Bugesera District in the 30th Commemoration of Genocide against the Tutsi at Nyamata Genocide Memorial, where they laid wreaths at the resting place of bodies who were killed inside the Nyamata Parish and its surroundings.
Speaker Mukabalisa comforted Genocide survivors, stating that elders who know the history of Bugesera District, and have lived the history and the youth who have been told the history or read it in books, should be proud that every year they can come together to give honour and value to those who were killed.
" We commend the good leadership that is committed to rebuilding the country, starting from restoring the hearts of Rwandans, through providing justice and preventing us from accepting death, making good choices in difficult times that lead us to have a better country, facing challenges of life, showing the integrity and resilience that made us reach where we are today," added Speaker Mukabalisa Donatille.
At the Nyamata Parish, during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, a major attack was launched, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people and they are buried in the same church which was converted into a memorial to the victims of the genocide.
