On 30 April 2023, Rt. Hon. Mukabalisa Donatille, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Government officials, and families and friends joined the residents of Kinazi Sector in the 29th Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi at Ruhango District Genocide Memorial.

Speaker Mukabalisa laid wreaths at the resting place of 63255 victims of the Genocide against Tutsi who were killed in the former “Commune Ntongwe” and its surroundings. During the commemoration, 40 bodies were exhumed at Ruhango District Genocide Memorial.

Speaker Mukabalisa stated that the commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi is a time for victims and all citizens to reflect on the tragic history of the country.

"Let us continue to preserve our unity, as the choice Rwandans have made to build on. This will help us have a better future for our country. It is therefore valuable for every Rwandan to participate and play a great role in the commemoration’s activities," Speaker Mukabalisa said.

During the commemoration, Ruhango survivors of the Genocide against the Tutsi in the former “Commune Ntongwe” requested to build a Genocide Museum to preserve the unique tragedy that they went through in 1994.
