On Tuesday, 31st January 2023, the Plenary Sitting of the Chamber of Deputies approved the Members of the Ad hoc Committee that will assess the legacy of colonial history as one of the sources of the conflicts in the East of DRC and its impact on the relations between DRC and Rwanda.

The Committee composed of 9 members was tasked with gathering information and thoroughly examining the role of colonial history in the region’s conflicts, especially the problems in the East of the Democratic Republic of Congo which affect the relationship between Rwanda and DRC. It was given a period of two months to deliver its report to the Chamber of Deputies.

Other responsibilities that the Ad hoc Committee will carry out include, finding out why the problems in the relationship between Rwanda and Congo keep existing and never end completely and reflecting on what can be done to solve the conflicts between the two countries.

This Committee will assess among others, the reason why FDLR and other militias groups based in the East of DRC fight against Rwanda are not completely dismantled, and the reasons behind the reticence of the international community on this issue.
