On 4th December 2024, both chambers of the Parliament of Rwanda concluded the first ordinary session of 2024/2025 launched on 7th October 2024 as per article 72 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.

Dr Kalinda François Xavier, the President of the Senate, stated that during the session, the Senate fulfilled its responsibility of monitoring the application of the fundamental principles expressed by Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.

The joint plenary of both Chambers heard reports from 5 Government institutions as provided by laws and some of the reports were reviewed by Standing committees, while others are still under review. 

During the session, the Senate approved the appointment of six (6) Officials who adopted one law, conducted an outreach activity and joined communities during “Umuganda.” 

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Right Honorable Kazarwa Gertrude highlighted activities achieved related to the Chamber’s mission of legislation, and oversight of the Executive.

She said that in line with the mission of legislation, the Chamber of Deputies approved the relevance of 11 draft laws and voted on 4 laws.  For the oversight responsibility, different standing committees conducted the assessment of some National policies including the anti-corruption policy, the Education Policy and foreign affairs policy.

During this session all Members of the Chamber of Deputies conducted field visits around the country, to reach out to the people and see how the 2025A agricultural season began and challenges met by farmers. The recommendations on the activity’s report were submitted to the Government and the Chamber of Deputies will continue to follow up on their implementation.
