On 5 June 2025, both Chambers of the Parliament, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, commenced the 3rd Ordinary Session, in accordance with the Constitution and the laws governing the functioning of Parliament.
In his opening remarks, the Right Honourable Dr Kalinda François Xavier, President of the Senate of Rwanda, stated that the Senate will fulfil its constitutional mandate while monitoring the application of the fundamental principles outlined in Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Rwanda.
The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Kazarwa Gertrude, emphasised the need to consider the relevance of various draft laws, including the vote on laws, such as the law determining the state finances for the fiscal year 2025-2026 and the draft organic law determining the functioning of the Senate. MPs will also exercise oversight over Government activities.
She also noted that the Chamber of Deputies will maintain close engagement with citizens to ensure Parliament remains a driver of sustainable development.
This session follows a productive previous term during which parliamentarians conducted outreach visits across the country, engaged with communities, visited development projects and followed up on earlier commitments and concerns raised by citizens.
