Rwanda continues to stand as the first country in the world to achieve a female majority in its national parliament, with 63.75% of seats in the Chamber of Deputies held by women, a figure unmatched by any other sovereign state. Despite women constituting approximately half of the world’s population, the global share of seats held by women stands at only 27.2% as of 2025. This distinction extends to the Senate, where women hold 46.2% of seats, further consolidating Rwanda’s standing as the foremost example of gender-inclusive legislative representation globally.
